TRANSACTIONS/CASES HANDLED:


Mr. Navato joined ACCRALAW in 1997 and is a member of its Corporate and Special Projects Department.  He has advised clients in establishing branch offices, representative offices, and subsidiaries in the Philippines as well as registering foreign clients’ investments with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.  Among his recent projects, he has advised (i) a Philippine universal bank in connection with their acquisition of two other banking institutions, and their proposed acquisition of another commercial bank, (ii) one of the largest computer manufacturers in the world in connection with the sale of one of their customer contact facilities in the Philippines, and (iii) one of the largest mining multinational corporation in setting up their Philippine subsidiary in the Philippines and also with respect to their exploration activities in the Philippines.  He has also assisted numerous foreign clients avail of certain economic incentives by registering with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (“PEZA”).  In this connection, he has helped various foreign clients establish their call center facilities in the Philippines by establishing their Philippine subsidiaries, registering them with the PEZA, and negotiating their contracts of lease for the site of such facilities.  

Mr. Navato has extensive experience in acquisitions involving energy projects having recently advised foreign clients in such projects involving their proposed acquisition of various power generation facilities in the Philippines, as well as the assets relating to the nationwide transmission system of the National Power Corporation.  He was also a part of ACCRALAW’s team of lawyers that provided advice to the World Bank on rural electrification in the Philippines.  He has also provided legal advice and assistance to both borrowers and lenders in loan agreements and the accompanying security arrangements.



EDUCATION/ACADEMIC ATTAINMENTS:

Mr. Navato graduated with a Master of Laws degree from Cornell University in 2003.  He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1997 and was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1998.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Economics also from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1993.

Mr. Navato is fluent in English and Filipino.

LAW TEACHING & LEGAL PUBLICATIONS:

Mr. Navato has co-authored a paper on the topic “BOT Projects: The Philippine Experience” that was presented at the 3rd World Women Lawyers Conference last June 2006.

MEMBERSHIPS:

He is a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (“IBP”).  Mr. Navato has also previously served as Chairperson of the Publications Committee of the IBP Makati City Chapter.
